Performance of the Week: Devan Cunningham
Cunningham is a guard on the Fresno State football team. Normally, he gets no attention. Rarely are his blocks remembered after a game, and when the running game 233 yards, the backs will get the love, andhe'll be forgotten. Sometimes, though, somthing special happens. Fresno State had just scored a TD with 2 seconds left and trailed Illinois, 52-51. Head coach Pat Hill didn't want overtime, and called for a pass attempt for the 2-point conversion. Ryan Colburns throw was batted down at the goalline, right into the hands of Cunningham. He put all 350 pounds of his body into the Illinois defense, and came out the other side with 2 points and coach Hill's 100th win at the school.

Performance of the Week: UConn
Even with the state of Notre Dame football, its hard for a team to go into South Bend and win, especially on Senior Day. UConn did just that, pulling off what's being called the best win in program history. After quickly going down 14-0, the Huskies D only allowed a field goal in each half, while the offense came back to tie the game at 20-20. They almost won on a late field goal that went wide, but won anyway on a TD in the second OT period. This is their first win since CB Jasper Howard was murdered, and head coach Randy Edsall dedicated the win to him, saying he would send the gameball to Howard's family.

Sure, USC has been beaten by two other Pac-10 teams already this season, but they hadn't lost at home in two years. The last team to do it? The Stanford Cardinal, in one of the biggest upsets ever. At 6-3 coming in, Stanford obviously felt they had something to prove, and prove it they did, beating USC 55-21. Its the most points ever scored against USC, and pretty much ends their streak of BCS bowl appearances, 11-win seasons, top-4 poll finishes, and is the first time Pete Carroll has lost as head coach of USC in November.

Performance of the Week: Tennessee
With the season winding down, this is the time rebuilding teams need to step up and show they can be somebody next year. After a 1-2 start that had them losing to Florida and UCLA, Tennessee has crawled back to a 5-4 record. Whats been overlooked in an SEC that features unbeaten Florida and Alabama and one-loss LSU has been Tennessee's improvement under first-year head coach Lane Kiffin. Last weeks win over South Carolina and this weeks 56-28 blowout of Memphis are the kinds of statement wins a team needs to show they have a future. Even with their QB and starting back leaving after this year, Tennessee could become a powerhouse team again. After this season ends, a Tim Tebow-less SEC could leave the East open for Tennessee's taking.

Lets be honest: TCU is a very good team, and UNLV is bordering on bad. They've still be averaging 25 points and roughly 380 yards per game. That just makes TCU's performance even more impressive. They allowed just 160 yards of total offense, 42 passing, in shutting out UNLV 41-0. Its their first shutout in almost exactly two years, and they've outscored opponents 123-13 in their last three games.

Nevada spent the start of the season not living up to expectations. They started off 0-3, and were blanked in Week 1 by Notre Dame. They exploded for 63 points in Week 4, but it came against a UNLV team that was 2-2 and giving up points. But playing one-loss Idaho, QB Colin Kapernick showed why some thought he might be in the Heisman running this year. He accounted for 408 yards of total offense, 178 throwing, 230 rushing, and 6 TDs, four of them on rushes of 11, 35, 61, and 75 yards. As a team, the Wolf Pack ran the ball for 484 yards and 8 TDs, including an 89 yarder by Vai Taua. The win is the fourth straight for Nevada, moving them to 4-3, 3-0 in their division.

Performance of the Week: Montel Harris
Much like Freddy Barnes last week, Harris put the team on his shoulders and carried Boston College to a win. Against NC State this week, Harris carried the ball 27 times for 264 yards, a near 10 yards-per-carry average. He also set a school record with 5 TDs. After taking a 24-13 lead at halftime, Harris scored all three of BC's 3rd quarter TDs, and earning the team a 52-20 win. He accounted for more yards by himself than any other player on either team.

Barnes, a receiver for Bowling Green, just about put the team on his back in their win over Kent State this week. Of the 44 completions thrown by QB Tyler Sheehan, exactly half of them went to Barnes for 278 yards and 3 TDs. He also had 9 yards on 3 carries. No other player on the team saw the ball more than 10 times, and no player on either team broke 100 yards rushing or receiving.

Miami has had probably the toughest schedule to start the season of any team. After 4 games, they have played 4 ranked teams, and are 3-1. This week, after suffering their first loss last week to the-11th ranked Va Tech, Miami had to take on No. 8 Oklahoma as a 7.5 point underdog. Trailing 7-0 after the first quarter and 13-7 at the half, Miami scored 14 in the third quarter and the defense held Oklahoma to a TD and a field goal to win 21-20.
Honorary mention goes to UTEP for their 58-41 victory over ranked conference rival No. 12 Houston.

After starting the season ranked but losing to Boise State, Oregon went on a somewhat weak winning streak, beating Purdue and a Utah team that had won 15 straight by a combined 10 points. This week, they put everything together against a Top-10 Cal team. After giving up a quick 3 points, the Ducks didn't allow another score, cruising to a 42-3 victory, and probably a return to the Top-25.

Performance of the Week: Florida State
FSU started the year as a ranked team, with good expectations for the season. Then they lost to then-unranked Miami(FL), 38-34. Barely beating Jacksonville State, 19-9, the following week didn't help matters much. So this weeks game against 7 BYU at BYU didn't hold very high prospects. But wheither it was an overrated BYU team, or FSU finally put it all together, the end result was a 54-28 FSU win. The blowout win came on the back of Christian Ponder's 3 TDs(2 pass, 1 rush) and ended BYU's 18 game home winning streak. FSU outplayed BYU in every facet of the game, didn't punt the ball until late in the third quarter, and forced 5 turnovers on defense. While this could end BYU's BCS hopes, it might have reignited FSU's.

Barely beating Jacksonville State, 19-9, the following week didn't help matters much. So this weeks game against 7 BYU at BYU didn't hold very high prospects. But wheither it was an overrated BYU team, or FSU finally put it all together, the end result was a 54-28 FSU win. The blowout win came on the back of Christian Ponder's 3 TDs(2 pass, 1 rush) and ended BYU's 18 game home winning streak. FSU outplayed BYU in every facet of the game, didn't punt the ball until late in the third quarter, and forced 5 turnovers on defense. While this could end BYU's BCS hopes, it might have reignited FSU's.

MY 25 - Week 2
There is probably nothing in sports I disagree with more than the BCS and college football poll system. With that in mind, each week I'll be naming my own Top 25. The only hard and fast rule of MY 25: overall records come first.

Performance of the Week: Houston Cougars
With Oklahoma State ranked fifth in the nation and coming off a huge win at home against Georgia, the Houston Cougars had their work cut out for them. They would have to go on the road and beat a Top 5 opponent, something they hadn't done since beating No. 3 Texas in 1984. Houston took control early, only to see OSU come back. But in a game full of mistakes by OSU, Houston was ready to take fully advantage, twice coming back from 4 point deficits to finally win, 45-35.

Team Performance of the Week: Military Schools
The first TPW of the season goes to the combined might of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Army beat Eastern Michigan this week, 27-14. Its really nothing special except that Army is 1-0 for the first time since 1996. Navy lost to Ohio State, 31-27, the four point difference being a Navy 2-point conversion being intercepted and returned for two the other way late in the game. Otherwise, Navy played well down the stretch against a largely overrated, but still intimidating, Ohio State team. But it was Air Force that had the most impressive looking score of the week. Taking on Nicholls State, and with both teams running essentially the same offense(Air Force coaches actually taught Nicholls State how to run the option offense), Air Force proceeded to put on a clinic in running the ball. They put up 576 yards of total offense, 474 of that on the ground. They scored 10 touchdowns, eight of them on the run(the other two: a 57 yard pass and a fumble return). And they shut out Nicholls, for a final score of 72-0. On the weekend, the three schools outscored opponents 126-45, for a combined 2-1 record.
