Roger Federer lost the US Open men's final to 6 seed Juan Martin del Potro. Federer had won five straight US Open Championships, and 40 consecutive US Open matches. The Williams sisters also won the Women's Doubles Championship. [Huliq]

Seattle Mariner Ichiro Suzuki broke Wee Willy Keeler's record for most consecutive 200 hit seasons with a single in Sundays game against the Texas Rangers. It is his ninth straight 200 hit season. [Yahoo]

Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher will miss the entire NFL season after dislocating his wrist in the opener against the Green Bay Packers. [Chicago Tribune]

The Philadelphia Eagles resigned former QB Jeff Garcia. Kevin Kolb is believed to be the Week 2 starter, with Garcia backing him up until Donovan McNabb is healthy or Michael Vick is ready to play. [Philadelphia Inquirer]
