NFL Sunday Recap - Week 10

Injuries! They hurt. And not just the person getting injured:

I found their weakness. They're powerless without their heads!:
Kyle Orton
After putting together a great start to the season, the Broncos had lost two straight. But never fear, they played the Redskins this week! There was no way they could lose! Brandon Marshall started the game off catching 2 passes for 115 yards and 2 TDs. They would add on a field goal in the second quarter to take a 17-14 lead into the half. Orton wouldn't see the field again, however, leaving with an ankle injury. Chris Simms would fill in for him in the second half, and he would go 3/13 for 13 yards and a pick. The Broncos would lose their third straight, 27-17.

Michael Turner
Matt Ryan is a solid QB, but he needs a running game to keep the pressure off. Turner gave him that to start the game, with 111 yards on 9 carries, an average of 12.3 yards per. The only thing that could stop him was an injury. And it did. Turner left the game with a high ankle sprain, and wouldn't return. That, plus Jake Delhomme suddenly remembering how to play football, led to a 28-19 loss to Carolina.

Brian Westbrook
Its been no secret that, as good as Donovan McNabb is, the offense goes through Westbrook. Coming off some post-concussion rest, he was back in the lineup, but expected to be limited. His eight touches was tied for most by anyone on the Eagles at the end of the game, but what limited him was yet another concussion. The Eagles almost came back in the fourth quarter, only to lose 31-23 to the Chargers. Westbrooks season, and possibly even his injury filled career, could be over.

We didn't need him, anyway:
Ronnie Brown
The Wildcat offense runs through Brown, and without him, the Dolphins almost lost. He ended the third quarter with an ankle injury, and the Buccaneers came back to take a 23-22 lead. It was only a field goal with ten second left that gave the Phins the victory.

Its kind of a wash, no?:
Cedric Benson and Troy Polamalu
Playing against each other, both players left the game early. Benson was out in the second quarter with a hip flexor, and Polamalu left in the first after reinjuring his knee. The two injuries sort of canceled each other out, as Pittsburgh lost arguably their best defensive player, but still held the Benson-less Bengals to only scoring field goals. The only touchdown of the game came on a kick return in the first quarter, and the Bengals won 18-12.

Rookie Roundup: Using a complex scoring system to rank two major rookies for the season

Mark Sanchez: 16/30, 212 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
Points: 7.6, 63.75 overall

Matthew Stafford: 29/51, 224 yards, 1 TD, 3 sacks, 28 rush yards
Points: 18, 49.65 overall

Week 10 Winner: Stafford

What Have We Learned?: Three things we can take away from this weekend
1. Even the great head coaches make bad decisions once in a while.
If you didn't watch the Patriots-Colts game last night, you missed a great game. You also missed what is being called one of the worst plays in NFL history. On 4 and 2, with his team up by 6, no timeouts, and about 2:08 on the clock in the fourth quarter, Bill Belichik decided to go for it. the short pass to the flat was caught, but the ref placed the ball about a yard short of the first down. No timeouts and outside the 2-minute warning meant the play couldn't be reviewed, but it looked like the pass was just short of a first down, anyway. The Colts got the ball back on the Pats 29 and scored the go-ahead TD. Very few people are saying this was the right play, with most agreeing the Pats should have punted in that situation.

2. Trick plays really do work sometimes!
I call it the Fake FG Fake Punt Punter Pump Pass to FB.

Touchdown! Just like they drew it up.

If the vid gets pulled(which it probably will), just run a search on Redskins trick play.

3. Bengals: still for real
The Bengals had been winning based mostly on their offense this year. With Cedric Benson finally looking like the back the Bears drafted and Carson Palmer throwing like he did in college, they've been scoring plenty of points. In the last few weeks, though, its been their defense coming through. In Week 7, they put up 45 points, but only allowed 10 to the Bears. Last week, they only gave up 7 to Baltimore. This week, their defense needed to come up huge against the Steelers, as neither team scored a TD. In case you missed it, they are now 5-0 against their division, with only a rematch with the Browns left. The Bengals are back!
